The Cambridge University Gospel Choir (CUGC) is a student-led society set up to provide a community and space for Christian gospel singing, worship and fellowship with one another. Our members are mostly members (students and staff) of the University of Cambridge, but we welcome others from other universities and community so long as they share in our vision.
Sing! Sing!! And Sing some more!!! We love singing gospel music.
As the Cambridge academic terms are very short and can be quite challenging, we come together every week to learn new inspiring and powerful gospel songs and to sing together. The Gospel Music society provides a unique space for students and others to feel loved and to be part of an inspiring and uplifting community.
We organize regular gospel worship events and concerts every term. We also sing outside the university and get involved in outreach programs that align with our vision.
We have performed in various places including the BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year competition, Queens College (University of Cambridge) May ball, the University Gospel Choir of the Year Competition, the Bishop of Ely's residence, Ecumenical Service for Christian Leaders in Cambridge, School for Disabled Children, concerts, worship celebrations and more.
We will be holding our Gospel Music Happy Hour and Worship Service in October and November 2017.
Venue: Pembroke College Chapel
Date: TBA
Our biannual Gospel Music Concert will be held on 17 November
2017. More information about the venue will be provided shortly.
Join us in another uplifting Christmas Carol Service to be held in Pembroke College Chapel on Friday, 1st December 2017. It shall be a glorious celebration of the birth of Christ through contemporary gospel Christmas Carols.

Cambridge choir wins through to competition finals Cambridge University Gospel Choir has made it through to the finals of a major competition – after only three rehearsals. The brand new student cho
Being a part of the Cambridge University Gospel Choir was faith-building and joyful. The enthusiasm of the talented choir members was contagious, and is rooted in a true and genuine desire to worship and share the Gospel. It isn’t about performing, but about praising Him. It was such a privilege and unique opportunity to sing Gospel music as part of this choir in the Cambridge community, thereby diversifying the choral traditions of the University. With singing and dancing the choir enjoys fellowship with each other at each rehearsal and event and therefore has amongst the members a strong community rooted in Christ. I am so grateful for all the friends I made in this choir.
Rebekah Scheuerle, PhD (St. John's College, Cambridge University)I am Kenyan PhD candidate at the Centre of Development Studies researching the political economy of Kenya’s cut flower industry. I joined the Cambridge University Gospel Choir last year in November after not having been part of a choir since high school. I enjoy the deep genuine worship, outreach and sense of community we share in the choir and have been really encouraged by how much progress we made in just a few months to make it to the University Gospel Choir of the Year competition in April. The choir has been an immense source of joy for me.
Nungari Mwangi PhD Student, Cambridge UniversityThe Cambridge University Gospel Choir is such a blessing. As an MPhil student new to Cambridge, I thought that joining the choir would mean long rehearsals that would take up my studying time. However, when I went the first time, I was glued and knew that there would be no getting out. The songs that we sing are so uplifting. The choir is such a homely place and Carol (the Choir Director) is such an incredible woman. I am so glad that I get to call her my big sis.
Lynn, Mphil/PhD student, University of Cambridge. The Gospel Choir is a unique experience. It can take you to a place where you have never been before, a place full of peace, joy and confidence. It teaches you to develop your energy, your “ inner you “ and pushes you to go beyond your limits. The sense of unity, cohesion in the group brings so much fun and happiness. Each concert is different as each song can be interpreted in a different way. A concert is not to be missed as it brings the choir and the audience a memorable time in everybody’s life.
Martine, Cambridge.I was away from home and thanks to this big-hearted choir. My whole life changed! I learnt how to rejoice and appreciate the love of every detail that God gives us.
